A Bit About Bio

Yasemin Alptekin, Ph.D. is a Turkish-American writer, translator, educator. She was born in Istanbul, Turkey. She taught at universities both in Turkey and in the US. She translated African Stories by Doris Lessing and Boom by Mark Haddon into Turkish. She also translated “Reviving Palmira in Multiple Dimension” with a Turkish title Çölün Gelini Palmira (The Bride of the Desert Palmyra). It was published by Bilgi University Press in 2019. Her autobiographical debut book What Is Harder? To Leave or Stay?  (Gitmek mi Zor Kalmak mi?) published in 2018 is well received by its readers. She reflects her multicultural experience in the US as a scholar in global education, and as a mother as well as a woman with personal touches. She has scholarly and literary articles in various journals both in English and Turkish. She is a Court Interpreter/Translator registered by the State of Washington. She spends her time with writing and translation, and as a free-lance interpreter. She lives in the state of Washington. She loves hiking and camping, cooking, wood-carving and poetry. She is an avid photographer enjoying taking pictures of family and friends and the places she travels.
